Christmas Card World Gifts Idea

In wishing you all a very happy Advent we’d also like to share the Christmas card/ World Gift idea that is happening at Sacred Heart and St William’s parish in Uppermill, Oldham.

As an alternative to sending individual Christmas cards, the parish of 200 people will join together to sign one giant Christmas card and make a donation which will be used to purchase one of CAFOD’s World Gifts.

Anne Kirkman has designed and made the parish Christmas card for the past three years and this year the card features a candle surrounded by rays of light with stars above and holly below. The card also features the words “Sign one card for all and raise money for World Gifts”.

Parishioners are invited to sign the card in church throughout advent before making a donation which in previous years has been enough to buy drinking water for a whole village.

Sacred Heart and St William’s has also held a collection at every mass and helped organise a One World Fair which combined raised over £700 towards the Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Appeal.

CAFOD World Gifts are an imaginative Christmas gift that will not only raise a smile on Christmas day, but change the life of someone living in poverty overseas.

This year’s World Gifts range starts from just £4 and features more than 40 inspiring and unique gifts from goats, vegetable gardens and chickens to fantastic new gift ideas including bee-keeping kits, worm farms to help boost crops, and greenhouses.

You can watch TV’s Adrian Chiles as he meets Sivia and her family, and learned all about how World Gifts make a difference to communities and families fighting poverty here:
