We are delighted to welcome Mgr Marcus Stock to the Diocese of Leeds as the Bishop Elect. Mgr John Wilson, the Apostolic Administrator of the Diocese and advocate for CAFOD’s work in the Diocese of Leeds, said he was “overjoyed and delighted at the great gift from Pope Francis”.

Mgr Stock will be the 10th Bishop of Leeds and today echoed the words said to him by the late Cardinal Hulme when asked about the motto he has chosen as Bishop. “I chose ‘Desiderio desideravi’ [I have longed and longed to be with you] as I was asked by Cardinal Hulme to carry these words with me when I was ordained as a Deacon in Rome. They speak of the personal intimacy and indwelling of Christ.”

Ben Oldham, the manager of CAFOD Leeds said “I would extend a warm welcome and congratulations to Mgr Marcus Stock on behalf of CAFOD’s staff, volunteers and supporters in the diocese. I count myself very fortunate to have the opportunity to work in collaboration with Mgr Stock and I look forward supporting the Bishop Elect in his ministry. I would like to assure Mgr Stock of our prayers and very best wishes for the future”.
