Parish volunteers from across the Diocese of Leeds are preparing for Family Fast Day on 5th October 2018 by asking fellow parishioners to join them in a simple soup lunch to help raise awareness of social justice and funds for CAFOD.
Last year we visited parish volunteer Mollie Somerville at St Cuthbert’s in Bradford at a gathering after mass. They were holding a simple soup lunch and we were inspired to hear that it wasn’t just during Harvest that the soup lunch is held, it is a fixed date in the calendar each month for the local parishioners.
We have received calls and emails to let us know about the simple soup lunches in the planning, and we will also be hosting one here at the Volunteer Centre on Friday 5th October 12pm – 1pm, you can bring along your favourite soup or share in our seasonable vegetable soup.
If you are inspired by Mollie and the many parish volunteers across the diocese, click here to find out more about how you can hold a simple soup lunch and support CAFOD’s work overseas.
If you would like to know more about becoming a parish volunteer, call 0113 275 9302 or send us an email firstname.lastname@example.org to organise a good time to discuss this rewarding volunteering role.
Support and training for new parish volunteers is available.
